NEW CAMT COURSE II: BASIC REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE.

PROGRAM OUTLINES

Although all four programs can be offered as stand-alone programs, we strongly recommend that participants who attend the Basic Maintenance and Repairs series in this curriculum, attend the Basic Electric Repairs and Replacements program first. An understanding of electricity and electrical safety is necessary for all the programs in the series.

BASIC ELECTRICAL REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS

The purpose of this program is to introduce participants to the most common electrical make-ready tasks for a technical service team member with up to a year of experience.

This program will concentrate on electrical make-ready tasks on the apartment side of the service panel--up to 110-120 volt circuits with just a brief discussion on 220-240 volt circuits. Trouble-shooting will be limited to individual electrical parts or fixtures.

* Basic wiring and electrical repairs.

APPLIANCE INTRODUCTION AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the make-ready tasks for major appliances that a technical service team member with up to one year of experience usually does.

In this program, we will concentrate on identification of parts, sequence of operations, preventive maintenance, and some minor adjustments and replacements for the major appliances typically found in an apartment home.

* Electric ranges

* Gas stoves

* Microwave ovens

* Range hoods and exhaust fans

* Refrigerators

* Ice makers

* Dishwashers

* Clothes washers

* Gas and electric clothes dryers

HVAC INTRODUCTION AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the HVAC (Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning) make-ready tasks that a technical service team member with up to one year of experience usually does.

In this program, we will concentrate on identification of parts, sequence of operations, preventive maintenance, and some minor adjustments and replacements for basic heating and cooling systems used for apartment homes.

Main Program Topics

* Baseboard heat (electric, hydronic)

* Forced air heat (gas, electric, hydronic)

* Basic cooling system

* Room air conditioner

* Split cooling system

* Split heat pump system

* Packaged outdoor systems

* Through-the-wall system

BASIC PLUMBING REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS

The purpose of the program is to introduce you to the most common plumbing make-ready tasks for technical service team members with up to one year of experience.

In this program, we will concentrate on plumbing make-ready tasks inside the apartment home. We will not discuss repairs or replacements that require complex trouble-shooting or involve potentially major safety hazards for persons or property.

* Plumbing systems for the apartment home

* Plumbing safety

* Plumbing materials

* Faucets, sinks and disposals, and lavatories

* Toilets

* Tubs and showers

* Drain cleaning

* Preventive maintenance for water heaters.
