NEW BON JOVI ALBUM TO BE SOLD ON DIGITAL COMPACT CASSETTE
NEW YORK, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyGram today released Bon Jovi's new album Keep The Faith on Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) in addition to compact disc and music cassette. Keep The Faith is the first new recording to debut on DCC in the United States.
Keep The Faith, Bon Jovi's first recording in four years, will go on sale today at music retailers nationwide, the same day that 300 record stores throughout the U.S. will begin selling nearly 60 pre-recorded DCC titles. Consumer electronics retailers throughout the country will also begin selling Philips DCC players this week. To accompany the introduction of DCC players, Keep The Faith will be available on DCC at approximately 300 music retailers in major cities nationwide.
In its first week of radio play, Keep The Faith was the number one, most-added single on contemporary hit radio stations across the country, according to Radio & Records. In addition, the song was added to the playlist of 99 percent of all album-oriented rock stations reporting to R&R. In its first week of sales, the single made its debut at number 76 on Billboard's singles chart.
"We are delighted to offer Keep The Faith on DCC -- the latest innovation in music entertainment," said Jim Caparro, president of PolyGram Group Distribution. "Bon Jovi fans, like most music lovers, have invested heavily in their cassette collections. DCC will allow them to step up to clear digital sound without having to leave their existing collections behind."
Since the band's first Mercury recording in 1984, Bon Jovi has sold a total of more than 15 million cassettes nationwide. Their fans have purchased 2.2 million Bon Jovi CDs in this time.
Before Thanksgiving, additional PolyGram DCC titles will arrive at music stores, bringing PolyGram's DCC offerings to approximately 150.
Invented by Philips Consumer Electronics of the Netherlands and co-developed by Matsushita Electric Industrial Company of Japan, the DCC music system provides CD-quality sound plus a combination of new features previously unavailable on recordable music systems, including digital recording, direct track access, text information display and Serial Copy Management System.
DCC is designed for home, car, personal and portable use and plays not only DCCs, but cassettes from listeners' existing collections.
PolyGram is one of the world's leading record companies. Its world famous popular and classical record labels include A&M, London, Deutsche Grammophon, Fontana, Island, Mercury, Philips Classics, Polydor, Verve, and, through its distribution, and license agreements, Motown.
