 PA ANNOUNCEMENTS TO BE HEARD IN HIGH-NOISE ENVIRONMENTS
 RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Air travelers who worry about missing their planes because they can't hear the boarding announcement in noisy airport waiting areas may soon be able to relax.
 Voice announcements over public address systems, which frequently are lost or misunderstood in situations where there is a high degree of ambient noise, can be made clearly intelligible with a new audio technology developed by Hughes Aircraft Company.
 The technology features unique Hughes circuitry, on which a patent is pending, called Voice Intelligibility Processor (TM) (VIP). This circuitry improves the listener's ability to understand an audio signal in a high-noise environment without an appreciable increase in the volume of the audio transmission.
 Initial applications for the new Hughes audio intelligibility systems are expected to be found in such places as airport terminals, shopping malls, hotel meeting rooms and similar settings.
 The technology is incorporated in a line of products developed by Hughes' Microelectronic Systems Division, first of which will be introduced to the professional sound equipment market at a trade show next month. Hughes intends to set up a full dealer network to handle distribution of the new equipment.
 Hughes Aircraft is a unit of GM Hughes Electronics (GMH).
