NEW ARMY CONTRACT UTILIZES RAYTHEON SENSOR TECHNOLOGY

 LEXINGTON, Mass., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The US. Army has awarded a $22.5 million competitive contract to Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Missile Systems Division to demonstrate and evaluate a system designed to pinpoint minefields from an unmanned aerial vehicle.
 The 32-month contract, awarded by the Belvoir Research Development and Engineering Center at Fort Belvoir, Va., covers work on the Airborne Standoff Minefield Detection System (ATAMIDS), which uses dual mode, high resolution infrared and laser sensors developed by Raytheon to locate and map minefields.
 The work will be performed at Raytheon facilities in Tewksbury and Bedford, Mass.
 Chauncey Dewey, Raytheon's Strike Systems program manager, said the company is "extremely pleased to win this contract, which permits us to apply our expertise in sensor technology and information processing to a new and important application."
 William H. Swanson, senior vice president and general manager of the Missile Systems Division, said the contract represents "a further extension of our systems technology," adding that "It represents a great win for us against tough competition."
 Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is an international, $9 billion technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
