NEW AMTRAK P32-8 LOCOMOTIVE AVAILABLE AT NEWS CONFERENCE
When it's necessary, beauty is also a beast. The new Amtrak P32-8 locomotive is not only stunning enough to win a commendation in the prestigious Brunel design competition in Spain, but one Amtrak engineer has credited the newly designed Dash-8 locomotive with saving his life as well. You are cordially invited to hear more.
 When: Tuesday, Sept. 22, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Chicago METRA Yard, 12th & Canal streets, site of 1992
 Railway Supply Association Exposition
 Background:
On Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 1992, Amtrak Train No. 2 and a flat-bed trailer, containing flammable materials, collided at a crossing near Crowley, La., on its run between Los Angeles and New Orleans. The trailer became enflamed upon impact; however, the locomotive crew escaped unharmed. Engineer Raymond J. Langhauser later contacted Amtrak President W. Graham Claytor Jr., to thank the corporation for their recent purchase of the Dash-8 Locomotive (manufactured by GE Transportation Systems) which he credited with saving his life. Amtrak and GE are bringing together the engineer and the builders as part of a visit by GE representatives to Chicago for the Railway Supply Association Exposition on Sept. 21-23. Meanwhile, this same locomotive design has just won a commendation in an international award for railway design and architecture for its innovative styling.
