NEW ALL-IN-ONE STATION FOR AUTO SERVICES OPENED BY ARCO NEAR L.A./ORANGE COUNTY LINE

NEW ALL-IN-ONE STATION FOR AUTO SERVICES
OPENED BY ARCO NEAR L.A./ORANGE COUNTY LINE
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCO today announced the opening here of its first all-in-one station, a multi- service facility providing gasoline sales, smog checks/repairs and tune ups, an am/pm (R) mini market, an express oil change service, and a one-minute soft-cloth car wash -- all on one convenient site. The oil change business is a new marketing venture for ARCO, while the soft-cloth car wash system represents a new variation of an existing business.
"Customers want the convenience of one-stop shopping in gasoline marketing services," said Scott Stanworth, vice president of Retail Marketing for ARCO Products Company, the refining and marketing arm of ARCO. "The all-in-one facility takes everything that's been traditionally associated with service stations and puts it together in a unique and modern combination of individual businesses."
The first ARCO all-in-one facility is located in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., at 10717 Carmenita Road on the corner with Florence Avenue adjacent to the Santa Fe Springs Mall. The two-acre site was selected for its central location near the intersection of the Golden State (I-5) and San Gabriel River (605) freeways and proximity to the shopping mall. A highlight of today's grand-opening festivities at the site was a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local city officials and ARCO executives.
"The all-in-one concept could change the way we do business," added Stanworth. "It is a much better utilization of expensive land." ARCO plans to expand the concept to a second location in San Diego, where construction starts this month.
The two new ARCO businesses included in the Santa Fe Springs facility also provide unique environmental features. The 10-minute Lube Now! express oil change business, in addition to performing 15 important vehicle maintenance services for a limited introductory price of $12.95, will collect and send out all used motor oil for recycling with an environmental services contractor. All used oil filters also will be sent to a contractor for further recycling. And, the Lube Now! service bays contain no floor drains, thereby eliminating any chance for oil leakage into the local sewer system.
The Wax & Dry CarWash (R) -- in the West Coast debut of this drive-through, soft-cloth, quick-wash configuration -- features a water reclamation system that uses only 12 gallons of fresh water per vehicle. By contrast, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power estimates that a single washing of your vehicle at home consumes some 50 to 150 gallons of water. ARCO's recycled car wash water is captured in underground clarifier tanks and then re-used for the entire wash cycle. Fresh water is introduced only during the final rinse cycle.
The special introductory price of the regular, one-minute soft-cloth car wash, plus wax and air dry, is just 49 cents. A super wash, including sealer and polish wax, and undercarriage flush and dry, is available for the special introductory price of 99 cents. Customers of both the Lube Now! and SMOGPROS (R) Express Test and Repair Center may use their service receipts to receive a complimentary Wax & Dry CarWash.
The Wax & Dry CarWash, the ARCO gasoline pump islands and the am/pm mini market will be open 24 hours, while the other businesses will feature extended service hours. Both the Lube Now! and the SMOGPROS services will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. All services accept payment through ARCO's convenient PayPoint (R) debit card system. Lube Now! and SMOGPROS customers may also use VISA and MasterCard through PayPoint.
