NEW ALBUMS.

ZABRINSKI: KOALA KO-ORDINATION

THESE Cardiff teenagers are plotting a weird path between fellow countrymen Super Furry Animals and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci on their second album. From the bubbling inventiveness of the title track to the lo-fi weirdness of Switzerland and the bats in the belfry strangeness of Splenticals, there's madcap ideas aplenty. Hopefully, they'll add a sharper sense of focus and direction as they mature.

THE WALLFLOWERS: RED LETTER DAYS

IT CAN'T be easy, being in a band when your father is the most influential rocker of the past 40 years. In the past, Jakob Dylan's band has sold enough to make his dad jealous - a US number one with One Headlight and double-platinum-selling album Bringing Down The Horse. But this stodgy, effort shows that if Jak's inherited any of ol' Bob's sense of time, drama or lyrical magic, he's kept it well hidden.

LADYTRON: LIGHT & MAGIC

THE Liverpudlian four-piece, assembled three years ago by individuals from very different parts of the world, recalls the first wave of British electro - particularly Depeche and The Human League. But where Phil Oakey's bunch headed straight to the middle of the dancefloor, Ladytron stand artfully in the shadows. The icy stance suits them well. This is a tantalising blend of pop craft and playful menace.
