NEW 'MIDSIZE' CLUBS HELP DAD GET INTO SWING OF A SMART GAME
CARLSBAD, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Caught in the rough deciding on a Father's Day gift?
If Dad is one of the 9.4 million-plus amateur male golfers in the country, surprising him with a "midsize metalwood" club may score an ace, especially if he wants to stay ahead of his competitors.
Taylor Made's Tour Preferred System 2 Midsize family of clubs, designed to be the longest, most accurate and forgiving on the market, are a strategic alternative to the oversized clubs currently flooding the market.
"Many oversized models, which have 25 to 30 percent larger club heads, actually have a smaller optimum hitting area -- otherwise known as the 'sweet spot,'" said Mark King, vice president of sales at Taylor Made. "Oversized clubs result in thinner walls, which throws off weight distribution."
The System 2 Midsize's club head is 18 percent larger than a normal club head. The club's weight is precisely distributed around the perimeter via Taylor Made's exclusive "Inner Cavity Weighting" system, which results in greater accuracy and longer distance, especially for off-center hits. And even though it is smaller than most oversized clubs, the Midsize has a larger striking surface and sweet spot.
Another exclusive feature of the new drivers is face progression, which moves the center of gravity of the head closer to the center axis of the shaft. This produces a truer loft, unlike oversized clubs which tend to create an undesirable "ballooning" trajectory.
For Dad, that means Taylor Made's System 2 Midsize driver is an ideal gift.
Available in 8.5- and 10.5-degree lofts, the System 2 Midsize drivers have a suggested retail price of $165 each for a steel shaft, and $292 each for graphite or titanium shafts.
For a very special and traditional Father's Day, Taylor Made suggests taking Dad to Sunday brunch, presenting him with a new driver, and then heading over to the course for an afternoon round.
