NEVADA POWER FILES CERTIFICATION, RATE REQUEST REVISED

NEVADA POWER FILES CERTIFICATION, RATE REQUEST REVISED
LAS VEGAS, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Nevada Power Co. (NYSE: NVP)

today filed final certification in its pending general rate request with the Public Service Commission of Nevada. Today's filing lowers the company's original request by $8.3 million to $30.3 million, or a 5.3 percent increase to average rates.
When the company filed its rate request in January it also filed for a four-month certification from Nov. 1, 1991, to Feb. 29, 1992. Under state law, utilities are allowed to estimate certain future costs which are known and measurable for up to six months after the test period but must reconcile with actual expenditures later. Today's reconciliation includes lower costs due to changes in capital costs, plant and construction work in progress. The revised rate of return is 10.08 percent with the return on equity unchanged at 12.75 percent.
If approved, the request would mean an increase in general rates of approximately 8.7 percent or $5.39 on the average residential bill. The company also has a pending deferred energy application which would reduce the average residential bill by 2.2 percent or $1.37 a month. This means the net increase to customers would be $4.02 or 6.5 percent. Hearings on the company's deferred energy application will begin May 11, with the general rate case slated for June 1. Consumer sessions will be held April 29, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Cashman Field Theatre.
