New pricing will expand Neuron Data's market penetration; company also hires VP of Technical Customer Services to handle increased volumes
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Neuron Data, Inc., a leading provider of object-oriented, client/server development tools, has dropped run-time fees for its entire product line. This new deployment policy eliminates run-times across Neuron Data's complete range of application development tools, from graphical user interface (GUI) and data access tools to expert systems development products. These include Neuron Data's Open Interface Elements(TM), Client/Server Elements(TM), Smart Elements(TM) and NEXPERT OBJECT(R) products.
By eliminating run-time fees, Neuron Data is enabling application developers to distribute applications at no cost and without having to track and manage licenses. This is an increasingly important requirement as corporate sites migrate to distributed client/server environments.
"Neuron Data's success has been built on a foundation of customers who have made significant investments in our technology and are using it to develop highly strategic applications," said Patrick Perez, CEO of Neuron Data. "To better address the broader market of applications that are not only strategic but also mainstream, we want to eliminate cost and overhead barriers, as well as strengthen our service and support. We're aiming to become the architecture of choice for client/server application development."
Neuron Data has been gaining steady market momentum with significant sales to leading corporate and ISV customers such as NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., Cabletron, Cincinnati Bell Information Services, Rolm, Simon & Schuster, Sterling Drug, and Sony. The fastest sales growth has been in the VAR and ISV communities, which now make up 50 percent of Neuron Data's customer base. Perez predicts that Neuron Data's new, no run-time pricing policy will position the company's tools for wide proliferation throughout both corporate and commercial software development sites.
For each of its Elements family tools, Neuron Data will sell a per- platform development kit, with unlimited deployment capabilities on that platform. For example, when a development group purchases Neuron Data's Client/Server Elements development kit for Microsoft Windows, that group could deploy their applications across an unlimited number of Microsoft Windows user seats, with no run-time fees or tracking requirements. To port their applications to Apple Macintosh systems, the group would then purchase a Macintosh porting kit, with which they could deploy their applications to an unlimited number of Macintosh user seats. Independent Software Vendors (ISV) reselling Neuron Data technology need to buy a porting kit for their original development platform. Neuron Data's products support more than 40 platforms -- including Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, OS/2 Presentation Manager, IBM AIX, HP HP-UX, Sun Solaris on SPARC and Intel and other UNIX systems.
"This pricing change is another example of Neuron Data's responsiveness to our needs," said John Dove, assistant director of presentation services at NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc. "They continue to provide timely, effective support for our development, our performance improvement and now our distribution. We asked them to find a way around the accounting nightmare of tracking run-time licensing and they've responded."
To support its move toward volume sales, Neuron Data has hired Ralph Love as vice president of Technical Customer Services. A veteran of IBM and Bechtel Corporation, Love brings an in-depth knowledge of software training and support to his new position. Formerly vice president of Bechtel's Software Services group, Love oversaw training and consulting programs for a full range of corporate and commercial software users. In his new position, Love will be responsible for expanding Neuron Data's customer services, focusing on technical support, training and consulting. In addition, Neuron Data will continue to augment its training and consulting through its network of global service partners.
"As businesses move their critical systems to client/server networks, software development is fast becoming a volume -- not a specialty -- business," said Neena Buck, an independent analyst and principal of Flat Earth Systems Group. "Neuron Data's elimination of run-time fees, combined with the modular approach it's taken with its products and now its improved service and support, make the technology more attractive to this growing community of mainstream developers."
Headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., Neuron Data designs, manufactures and markets open, portable application development tools optimized for commercial software vendors and corporate developers. With 11 offices worldwide, including London, Paris and Tokyo, and distributors throughout the Pacific Rim, Europe and Japan, Neuron Data is the worldwide market leader in graphical interface and rule-based application development tools.
