NETWORTH DEBUTS GIGABIT FIBER OPTIC ETHERNET ADAPTER CARDS.
NetWorth Technologies, Inc. (www.NetWorthTech.com) of Plymouth Meeting, Pa. has unveiled a new line of Gigabit Fiber Optic Ethernet adapter cards with their unique "EOD", Extended Operating Distance feature. This feature will allow connectivity up to 40km - almost 25 miles with single mode fiber cable.
Starting at $595, the N1000 family of Gigabit Ethernet Adapters consists of 32/64 bit, high performing, host-optimized, network-enhanced, multiple-speed, cost-effective fiber optic cards operating at 2 Gbps full duplex. They are designed for use in servers and backbone designs, high-speed workstations and corporate desktops that require high bandwidth, fault tolerance and hot plug capability.
The product line includes:
N1000S
Short Wave, 550 meter, 62.5 um MM fiber @ 850 nm Short Wave, 650 meter, 50 um MM fiber @ 850 nm
N1000L
Long Wave, 650 meter, 62.5 um MM fiber @ 1300 nm Long Wave, 650 meter, 50 um MM fiber @ 1300 nm Long Wave, 1.5 kilometer, 62.5 um MM fiber w/ DMC @ 1300 nm Long Wave, 8 kilometer, 8 um SM Fiber @ 1300 nm
N1000E
Long Wave, 40 kilometer, 8 um SM fiber @ 1550 nm
The 550 meter distance on the N1000S is more than twice the industry spec for similar short wave adapter cards run over 62.5 um Multi Mode fiber optic cabling.
Based on the IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet standard, the N1000 Adapters are fully interoperable with any existing network equipment that complies with IEEE standards. Auto-negotiation allows the cards to work on any fiber enabled Gigabit Ethernet switch. The 10/100/1000 Mbps operation provides a clean migration path from 10/100 to 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet.
The main applications for these products are server clusters and backbones that require Indoor/outdoor fiber runs for high bandwidth or long distances. The higher wavelength support of 1550 nm goes beyond industry specs and provides less attenuation and greater reserve bandwidth. Campus environments serving multi-media applications are ideal for these products.
EOD, Extended Operating Distance
Standard operating distances may not be adequate for some Enterprise environments. As more LANs are deployed throughout campus and metropolitan areas, the physical distances from workstations and communications equipment to a central server, or server farms, may dictate cable lengths beyond the operating distance specified by industry standards.
The N1000 provides the extended operating distances for fiber cables without adding repeater costs and installation delays. The capability to support longer distances also means more robust support for shorter but high bandwidth connection.
Other supported features include:
Host Offloading, Frame Tag Support, Jumbo Frame Support, Intelligent Interrupt Management, Address Matching/Filtering and Flow Control, Hot plug capability, Fault Tolerance, Load Balancing
Future Products:
N1000T Low Profile, 32/64 Bit PCI, 1000BaseT adapter for CAT 5 UTP, available in 30 days N1000G GBIC compliant adapter for single/multi-mode fiber or copper connection, available in 60 days
