NETWORK SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES NETWORK BACKUP FOR PC DOS AND NOVELL SERVERS
WASHINGTON, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- At the INTEROP 92 Spring Conference here, Network Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCO) announced enhancements to its Central Archiving backup software that provides support for both PC DOS systems and Novell servers. Central Archiving now enables organizations to perform automated backup of networked PCs and Novell servers, as well as the Unix and non-Unix systems it previously supported.
Central Archiving allows network managers to backup and restore individual files, specified directories or entire volumes to host storage systems. The backups retain all DOS and Novell Netware attributes and bindery information for Novell servers.
Central Archiving is a feature of USER-Access, software for file transfer and backup that runs on TCP/IP and other networks. The purpose of Central Archiving is to protect an organization's vital information, which now is likely to be spread throughout the organization, not just confined to the data center, and to help reduce operating expenses.
"Protecting a company's data, in sales, accounting, engineering or manufacturing is critical today, and so is reducing costs," said Warren Pillsbury, vice president of marketing for Network Systems. "That's why interest in network backup is growing tremendously. Central archiving uses the power of high-speed networks to put that backup job in the data center, which has the people, procedures and peripherals to do the job right and cost-effectively. It reduces the need for backup devices at distributed locations, and it also frees the sales, marketing, accounting, engineering and manufacturing people to spend more time on their primary duties."
Central Archiving software resides on each network node to be backed up, as well as on the central host, which can run MVS, VM, VMS or Unix operating systems. The price of Central Archiving varies with the systems it resides on, and ranges from $2,000 to $25,000. Central Archiving for PC DOS and Novell servers is available now.
Network Systems, based in Minneapolis, is a leading supplier of high-performance networking solutions.
