NETWORK SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES EARLY TERMINATION OF THE HSR WAITING PERIOD

 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Systems Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: NSCO) announced today that it has received official notification that the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, applicable to its tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Bytex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: BYTX) terminated at 11:59 p.m., New York City time, on Oct. 13, 1993.
 As previously announced, pursuant to a merger agreement with Bytex on Oct. 4, 1993, Network Systems commenced a tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Bytex at $6.80 per share in cash. Unless extended, the offer is scheduled to expire at midnight, New York City time, on Nov. 2, 1993. A total of approximately 431,397 Bytex shares had been tendered as of the close of business on Oct. 21, 1993.
 Network Systems, based in Minneapolis, makes high-performance data communications systems. The company's stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System.
