NETRIX AND SIEMENS FORM STRATEGIC ALLIANCE

NETRIX AND SIEMENS FORM STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
HERNDON, Va., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Netrix Corporation

(NASDAQ: NTRX) and Siemens Group Private Communication Systems today announced a strategic alliance to develop and market packet switching products for the private network marketplace. Under the four-year initial term of the contract, Siemens will sell and support products based on Netrix technology, and support the development of advanced products and features. The Siemens relationship provides a new global distribution channel for Netrix that is complementary to Netrix' existing worldwide distribution strategy, which includes international systems distributors, systems integrators, and a United States-based direct sales force.
The focus of the alliance is for Netrix to provide access products that complement Siemens' line of higher-end packet switches. The initial product covered by the agreement is an integrated frame relay and X.25 switch, named the HICOM PS 1000. The HICOM PS 1000 is based on Netrix technology and is compatible with Siemens' existing HICOM PS product line, Models 16, 110, and 2000. Siemens will begin marketing the HICOM PS 1000 in Germany immediately, with distribution in other regions scheduled to begin April 1, 1993.
Bernd Mayer, deputy director, Large Systems Hicom Siemens AG, said, "Netrix technology will permit us to expand our packet switching product range for private networks. This is of particular importance for us as a worldwide leading producer of PBX equipment so that we can offer complete network solutions to our customers." Mayer continued, "With the introduction of the HICOM PS 1000 System, the Siemens Group Private Communication Systems has the ability to offer integrated solutions that cover the entire spectrum of possible applications, from small networks with under 100 subscribers to large networks with more than 10,000 subscribers."
Charles W. Stein, president and CEO of Netrix Corporation, commented on the agreement, "We view this alliance as an endorsement of our technology by one of the largest, most established companies in the communications industry. It is a long-term relationship that should support our growth in the mid-90's. In addition, the development relationship will help us accelerate the enhancement of our standard product line as well as provide new products that will emerge over the course of the agreement."
Siemens Private Communication Systems is the world's leading supplier of PBX equipment, shipping more than three million lines per year. It has employees in 60 countries, more than 400,000 customers worldwide, and manufacturing sites in 17 countries. It is a division of Siemens AG, which employs more than 400,000 people and had 1991/92 sales of $50 billion.
Netrix Corporation manufactures and markets products that are used to build new corporate networks and to consolidate multiple application-specific networks into more effective enterprise-wide networks. The company's products enable network managers to optimize and simplify their networks by matching each application to the best switching technology and to the most appropriate communications facilities.
