NESTLE DISTRIBUTION CO. ANNOUNCES THREE NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTERS
LOS ANGELES, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Nestle Distribution Co. will modernize and upgrade its entire U.S. distribution complex and has selected sites in Atlanta, Fort Worth, Texas, and DeKalb, Ill., for the first three of eight new distribution centers. They will service 23 states, which will jointly provide more than 2 million square feet of storage and cost $75 million.
Construction on all three is planned to start this summer with completion expected in mid-1993. Project developer on all sites is Champion Property Co., Dallas.
The $30 million, 160-acre DeKalb site, off Interstate 88, about 60 miles west of Chicago, will provide 860,000 square feet of space, replacing current locations in nearby Rochelle and Itasca, Ill. Land is available for expansion to 1.75 million square feet.
As the largest facility in the Nestle distribution network, it will also become headquarters for CARNACO Transport Inc., the Nestle private truck fleet currently located in Oconomowoc, Wis. The center will employ 130, most of which are expected to transfer from Rochelle and Itasca.
A 45-acre site in northeast Fort Worth's Alliance Gateway Center at Eagle and Westport Parkway off of Interstate 35 has been selected for the $20 million, 520,000-square-foot distribution center, replacing the current facility northwest of Dallas in Garland, Texas. Sufficient land is available to expand to 791,000 square feet. Staffed by 50 employees, the current Garland staff is expected to transfer.
The current Chattanooga, Tenn., distribution center will be replaced with a $25 million 770,000-square-foot, 60-acre center southeast of Atlanta in Henry County on Interstate 75. The initial warehouse will cover 17.5 acres under roof with 75 employees, the majority of which are expected to relocated from Chattanooga.
Distribution centers will handle the majority of the company's more than 1,000 food and beverage items for Nestle Food Co., Nestle Beverage Co., Nestle Brands Foodservice Co. and Nestle Refrigerated Co.
