 NERCO COAL ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACT
 PORTLAND, Ore. /PRNewswire/ -- NERCO Inc. (NYSE, Toronto: NER)


today announced its coal subsidiary, NERCO Coal Corp., St. Louis, has entered into an agreement with Minnesota Power & Light Co. to supply low-sulfur coal during 1992 from the Spring Creek Mine located in southeastern Montana. The agreement calls for a minimum delivery of 500,000 tons to a maximum of 1.5 million tons. Coal deliveries will be made by the Burlington Northern Railroad.
 The Spring Creek Mine is one of NERCO's large western coal operations located in the Powder River Basin. The mine produced 6.2 million tons of coal in 1991 through November. Spring Creek's domestic customer base includes major utility and industrial accounts and the mine shipped coal in 1991 to customers in Spain and Japan.
 NERCO is a diversified natural resource company with significant interests in low-sulfur coal, oil and natural gas, and precious metals. The company was the seventh largest U.S. coal producer in 1990, mining 28 million tons. In 1991 through Sept. 30, the company produced 21 million tons.
