NERCO ANNOUNCES NEW COAL CONTRACT

PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- NERCO Inc. (NYSE: NER) today announced its coal subsidiary, NERCO Coal Corp., has entered into a new long-term contract with Commonwealth Edison to supply low-sulfur coal from the
Antelope Mine located in Wyoming's Powder River Basin. Under the terms of the agreement, NERCO expects to produce between 30 and 40 million tons of coal for Commonwealth over several years. "We are extremely pleased to obtain this new business," said Nicholas P. Moros, president of NERCO Coal. "It expands considerably the indirect relationship we have historically had with Commonwealth Edison through our interest in the Decker Coal Co. It also reaffirms NERCO's strategy to grow its coal business, centered on its competitive, low-sulfur Powder River Basin core assets."
NERCO Coal Corp. is expected to sell about 26 million tons of coal in 1992 from its Powder River Basin interests. NERCO produces approximately half of those sales through its wholly owned subsidiaries; the balance is attributable to its Decker Coal Co. joint venture and to brokerage sales.
NERCO Inc. is a diversified natural resource company with interests in low-sulfur coal, oil and natural gas, and precious metals. Approximately 82 percent of NERCO's common stock is beneficially owned by PacifiCorp (NYSE: PPW).
