 NERCO ANNOUNCES BOARD AND MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS
 PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- NERCO Inc. (NYSE: NER,


Toronto) today announced the following board and management appointments.
 The board of directors increased the size of the board from seven to eight and elected William J. Glasgow, a senior vice president of PacifiCorp (NYSE: PPW), to the vacancy created. Glasgow is also chief executive officer of PacifiCorp Financial Services.
 The board named Lawrence E. Heiner chief executive officer of the natural resources company. He has been NERCO Inc.'s president since 1989 and serves as a member of the NERCO board of directors. He also recently reassumed the positions of president of NERCO Oil & Gas Inc. and NERCO Minerals Co. in addition to his responsibility as chief executive officer of these companies.
 Gerard K. Drummond, executive vice president of PacifiCorp, who has served as chief executive officer of NERCO since 1977, remains chairman of NERCO's board of directors.
 Other appointments made by the board were as follows:
 - Richard T. O'Brien, senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of NERCO Inc. O'Brien has been vice president and treasurer of the company since 1989. He joined NERCO in 1983 and has held numerous financial positions with the company. In his new position, O'Brien will be responsible for treasury, investor relations, insurance & risk management, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate financial planning.
 - Rodney D. Erskine, vice president of NERCO Inc. and senior vice president & chief operating officer of NERCO Oil & Gas Inc. Erskine joined NERCO Oil & Gas as a senior vice president in 1991 after the company acquired the offshore oil and gas assets of Union Texas Petroleum Inc., where he was vice president and general manager of U.S. offshore exploration and production. He will be responsible for the operating functions of the oil and gas subsidiary, including exploration, development, construction, and production.
 The company also announced that Charles C. Adams, senior vice president of NERCO Inc. and president of NERCO Coal Corp., will be assuming new responsibilities at PacifiCorp. Adams started his career with PacifiCorp at Telephone Utilities (now Pacific Telecom Inc.) in 1974 and became treasurer of NERCO in 1978. He has held a variety of executive assignments with the company including chief financial officer between 1983 and 1985. The company has initiated a search for a replacement of Adams as president. Adams will continue to serve as president of NERCO Coal Corp. until the replacement is found. He has resigned as president of NERCO Minerals Co.
 NERCO Inc. is a diversified natural resources company with major interests in low-sulfur coal, oil and natural gas, and precious metals. PacifiCorp owns 82 percent of NERCO's common stock.
