NELSON NEPOTISM SCANDAL; Navy hero's great great great great great great nephew joins marines.
But direct descendant Craig Nelson was repelling some mischievous broadsides about nepotism from his mates yesterday - after he qualified as a Royal Marine.
Craig, 24, is - wait for it - the great-great-great-great-great-great nephew of the great Horatio, hero of the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar.
And now he has a scroll to prove it.
As a gift at his passing out parade with the Royal Marines 747 squad at Lympstone, Devon, he was presented with a family tree chronicling his lineage.
Craig, who hails from the kiss-me-Hardy county of Dorset, plans to become a PT instructor with the green berets - a level of fitness old uncle would have given his right arm for. And like his family, who have a piece of Lord Nelson's HMS Victory mounted on a plaque at their Bournemouth home, he's proud of his heritage.
He claimed, though: "I don't know if it made me want to join the forces. I think it is what I would have wanted to have done anyway."
Tell that to the marines.
