NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE BUYS PROCOM'S "NETFORCE 100".
In fact, with 500 users on its LAN and 155 GBs of data being managed and stored at the location, it is critical that these requirements be met.
Don Wells, senior systems engineer for the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, was looking to add a hard drive server to the network. Having owned several products from Procom Technology Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:PRCM) and trusting in their reliability as well as the recommendations of his Procom sales rep, Wells reviewed the specifications and purchased the NetFORCE 100(tm) from Procom.
It did not hurt Procom in the selection process, Wells noted, that other product choices carried price tags of $150,000 and $200,000, while the NetFORCE 100 he selected was only $9,569.
Wells said that installing the NetFORCE 100 was a simple 10-minute process. "I punched the IP address into it and set it up on a Web-like screen, and I was done in minutes. I've installed many mass storage devices and this one redefines `easy.'" When Wells had questions regarding security settings, Procom technical support was very helpful, he said.
There are three key benefits of NAS storage technology: simple plug-and-play installation, faster file transfer to users with a dedicated specialized appliance that is optimized for data storage functions, and improvement of other general purpose server operations by offloading file I/O operation to the NAS device.
Wells said that in addition to adding 67 GBs of storage capacity instantly to the network, he can now perform operations he could never do before. Wells said he was so pleased with the NetFORCE 100 that he is planning to order another three units in the near future.
The NetFORCE 100 at Nellis Air Force Base is supporting a workgroup of 500 users connected to a wide area network with seven servers, now holding 222 GBs.
About the NetFORCE 100
NetFORCE 100 is Procom's latest achievement in the company's four years of providing network-attached storage solutions. It is the first product that addresses all of the critical elements of network-attached storage for the workgroup -- ease of use, total cost of ownership, affordability, data availability, performance and scaleability -- by creating a new product category: plug-and-play protected storage for the network.
With the NetFORCE 100, Procom has established a new standard for affordability and ease of use in network-attached storage devices, with models available for as low as 10 cents per megabyte, while still creating the industry's fastest sub-100 gigabyte protected storage appliance.
In fact, the NetFORCE 100 data transfer rate is 20 percent faster, while carrying a price tag 30 percent lower than entry-level application servers with equivalent storage.

Procom Technology is a top manufacturer of intelligent network storage solutions and a pioneer in the development of network-attached storage (NAS) appliances. Its products today reflect a logical, carefully planned evolution that began in the mid-1980s when Procom became nationally prominent as one of the first companies to meet the demand for complete high-performance storage systems.
Procom's focus broadened in the early '90s to include CD-ROM networking solutions, tape backup systems for networks and desktop systems, and scaleable RAID systems. In all its product lines, Procom delivers the most sophisticated technology that is at once simple to install, easy to use and cost efficient to maintain.
The company's superiority in intelligent storage technology is exemplified today in its line of network-attached storage appliances. Combining cost-efficiency, scaleability, performance and ease of integration into heterogeneous networks, these appliance focus exclusively on serving data.
The result is a broad line of NAS solutions that effectively meets both present and future storage requirements for constantly growing, data-dependent networks.
