DALLAS, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Neiman Marcus (NYSE: NMG), the Dallas-based specialty retailer, rang in the 1993 holiday season today, debuting its world-famous Christmas Book and announcing an unprecedented pair of His and Hers gifts.
For 1993, Neiman Marcus offers a His and Her gift for the future and one from the past. For those with an urge to travel in a futuristic way, there's the Flarecraft, a unique water craft that skims over the surface of water at up to 75 miles per hour. Those looking to the past can opt for a pair of life-like automated dinosaurs (also available individually). The baby Tyrannosaurus rex and the adolescent Triceratops feature moving heads and tails, darting eyes and sound effects. The dinosaurs were designed by Dinamation International Corp. of Southern California, a creative arts and sciences company involved in paleontology research and exhibits for museums and zoos around the world.
Terry J. Lundgren, chairman/CEO of Neiman Marcus, arrived at the press conference aboard the Flarecraft. "In the Neiman Marcus tradition, the 1993 Christmas Book represents the unique and unusual in all price ranges," says Mr. Lundgren. "There's definitely something for everyone to be found in this year's Christmas Book."
Other gifts exclusive to Neiman Marcus this year include the Electricar GTP, a battery-powered sports coupe that cruises at speeds of up to 80 mph and travels distances up to 100 miles on each electric charge.
Perfect for entertaining inside or out is the fantasy tent, a handcrafted tent still used today in Egypt for national celebrations and other gatherings. Measuring 13 square feet, the tent adds an exotic touch to any festivity.
For the traveler, Neiman Marcus offers the Louis Vuitton Stokowski desk-trunk, named for the famous conductor who purchased the first such trunk in 1936. This exclusive steamer features a pull-out surface and the interior is roomy enough for an around-the-world trip's worth of belongings.
Train buffs will love the Huff & Puff Garden Railway, a miniature outdoor railway universe, landscaped to owner's specifications. Any landscape theme can be created, using plants, buildings, trestles, mountains, miniature people, animals, waterways and lighting.
The Electra-Ghost Canoe, named for its ghost-like movement through water, features a whisper-quiet non-polluting electric motor that propels the canoe through calm waters at 4.5 knots per hour. It is ideal for fishermen, wildlife photographers and anyone for love of the outdoors.
For the young and young at heart, Neiman Marcus offers the Austin J40 Pedal Car. Hand-built to order, this child-sized (63 inches) roadster can be enjoyed by kids as well as collectors.
The 1993 Christmas Book also features cartoon-style cover art by the inimitable Ronald Searle. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Christmas Book items featuring Mr. Searle's cover art will go to recipients of the "Green Nobel" -- Earth service awards founded by Mr. Claes Nobel of the Nobel Prize family. Mr. Nobel is chairman of United Earth, which honors leadership and excellence in service to the Earth, humanity and the environment.
The gifts featured in the 1993 Christmas Book were unveiled for media and Neiman Marcus InCircle customers at White Rock Lake in Dallas. The book will be distributed to more than 3 million Neiman Marcus customers worldwide.
