NEED FLOWERS, A PIZZA OR AN AIRLINE TICKET? IT'S NOW A FREE STAR CALL ON YOUR CELLULAR PHONE!
ATLANTA, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Mobility cellular customers are now just a star key away from a free airtime call to food, travel, towing, floral and banking services thanks to the new Star (asterisk) Number Program recently introduced. And, according to reports on the now one-month-old trial program, customers are clamoring for more. The new Star (asterisk) Number Program allows Atlanta and north Georgia BellSouth Mobility (BMI) customers to call specific product and service businesses quickly, using easy-to-remember phone numbers and with no airtime charge. All airtime charges are picked up by the participating businesses. Customers are responsible only for the costs of items or services requested. "Businesses contacted us asking for easy-to-remember phone numbers, and customers asked us for more free calls. This program meets the needs of both local businesses and our customers," said Joyce Jarema, manager, New Products and Services. Currently, the roster of businesses by product category includes: (Star) PIZZA for pizza deliveries through Pizza Hut Inc.; (Metro Atlanta only) NOTE: If the phone has no "z" on it, use the star key instead. (Star) FLOWERS for 24-hour FTD deliveries through Buning the Florist; (Star) TRAVEL for travel arrangements through UNIGLOBE VIP Travel; (Star) TOW for road service through Auto Help Line of America; (Star) BANK for loan, interest rate and other financial information through Bank South; and (Star) FREE for a recorded listing of all "Star" numbers. With the exception of (Star) Pizza, all Star numbers are available to BMI customers throughout BellSouth Mobility's 15,000 plus square mile coverage area including Atlanta, Athens and the RSAs. (Star) Pizza operates in only the metropolitan Atlanta area, but will supply local numbers to callers from other areas. BellSouth Mobility may add other product categories to the six- month trial process which will be assessed in July. If it continues to be as successful as it has already proven, the company will consider a national rollout to other BellSouth Cellular Corp. operations on a market-by-market basis. "Our cellular customers are already accustomed to using the star key to dial Star 611 for technical support, Star 711 for roaming information, and Star 811 for all customer services," said Jarema, "as well as other numbers for traffic and news reporting to various Atlanta radio and television stations. The product categories are an easy transition. As always, BellSouth Mobility reminds customers to dial all phone numbers when the car is stopped, to keep their eyes on the road, and to use a hands-free speakerphone whenever possible." According to BMI, customers will be mailed a brochure listing all the Star Numbers, as well as a clear static cling sticker. BellSouth Mobility, a part of BellSouth Cellular Corp., serves more than 740,000 customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. -0- 3/25/93 /CONTACT: Nicole Lipson of BellSouth Cellular Corp., 404-604-6493, or Marilee Davis of Davis & Associates, 404-261-0309, for BellSouth Mobility/
