NEC announces enhancements to Mobile Internet Platform.

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

NEC Corporation (TSE:6701; Nasdaq:NIPNY), a provider of Internet, broadband network and business solutions, has announced enhancements to its Mobile Internet Platform 'NEMIP' for global mobile operators.

NEC said it has added a new multi-operator function which enables operators to share a common i-mode platform and i-mode service with affiliated companies, across geographical borders if required.

According to NEC its NEMIP enables provision of the i-mode mobile Internet service, with the platform providing an integrated solution for unified operations and service management. One of the platform's subsystems is a gateway that allows customers to gain easy, fast and secure access to the content offered by i-mode service providers.

The NEMIP's mail subsystem enables customers to access i-mode mail services on their mobile handsets, with picture and video attachments and interoperability with other MMS or e-mail-enabled phones.
