NEBRASKA CITY TEACHER IS REGIONAL WINNER
IN TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Diane Schnitzer, a physical education teacher at Nebraska City Junior High School, is one of 16 regional winners in the nationwide "Teacher of the Year" competition sponsored by IBM and Technology & Learning Magazine.
Schnitzer was selected as a regional winner from some 150 state semifinalists competing for the national honor. The Teacher of the Year will be chosen from the 16 regional winners and announced in the fall of 1992.
As a regional winner, Schnitzer will receive an IBM Personal System/2 Model 25 computer, an IBM Proprinter, an assortment of IBM courseware, and will be profiled in Technology & Learning Magazine.
Now in its fifth year, the IBM/Technology & Learning Magazine competition recognizes kindergarten through 12th grade teachers who use classroom technology to motivate children and revitalize the learning process.
Schnitzer incorporates technology into her physical education classes to capture exercise results and enable students to complete written work on scoring and rules, terminology and skill technique, equipment and safety, and fitness techniques. Students have been astonished at lab experiments and demonstrations they experience through technical tools now available.
A panel made up of educators selected by Technology & Learning Magazine chose the winners from nominations received from school systems nationwide.
Since the program was initiated in 1988, more than 200 teachers from across the country have been honored for their innovative teaching methods and for programs of curriculum enrichment.
The national Teacher of the Year winner will receive for his or her school a network of computers, consisting of 20 IBM Personal System/2 Model 25 computers, an IBM PS/2 Model 80 file server, four IBM Proprinters and a library of IBM courseware.
The competition is open to all teachers who utilize classroom technology, regardless of the type of systems or courseware used.
