NEARLY A HALF MILLION DOLLARS RAISED FOR CHARITIES IN
'92 BEN HOGAN CLEVELAND OPEN PRESENTED BY REVCO
CLEVELAND, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1992 Ben Hogan Cleveland Open Presented By Revco proved to be a big winner for local charities.
Revco officials announced today $495,788 was raised from the tournament that was held in June. Ten community organizations will benefit from those funds.
The half million dollars generated from ticket sales and corporate sponsorships surpassed the record proceeds of $401,550 from the event in 1991. And once again, the record proceeds also topped the funds raised by 29 other cities on the Ben Hogan Tour. The tour includes a series of 30 tournaments designed to bring professional golf to new markets, increase playing opportunities for professional golfers and benefit a wide range of local charities.
"We're very pleased with the outstanding support we have received from the people of Greater Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio. Working with the Ben Hogan Open has provided Revco with a great opportunity to help several worthy charities," said Bob A. Newmark, Revco's vice president of communications, and general chairman of The Ben Hogan Cleveland Open Presented By Revco.
Of the 10 charities receiving nearly $500,000 in funds:
-- Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland will receive a check for
 $150,000.
-- Ronald McDonald Children's Charities will receive $100,000.
-- United Way of Lake County will receive $50,000.
-- Cleveland's Ronald McDonald House will receive $35,000.
-- Urban Community School will receive $30,000.
-- Parmadale Family Services and the Diocesan Child Guidance Center
of Columbus each will be awarded $20,000.
-- Boys Hope - Northeastern Ohio Program will receive $15,000.
The Northern Ohio Section of the PGA will also receive $56,000 of the proceeds, which will be distributed among a variety of charitable causes that focus primarily on fundraising activities, education programs and scholarship opportunities for children.
And Revco will award Ben Hogan Scholarships - worth $2,500 each - to eight local college-bound students.
The Ben Hogan Cleveland Open Presented By Revco is sponsored by Revco, D.S., Inc., one of the nation's foremost drug store chains. Revco, D.S., Inc., operates 1,150 drug stores in nine contiguous eastern states and is headquartered in Twinsburg, Ohio.
