NEALE ELECTED NI/NIPSCO CHIEF EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 1993

 HAMMOND, Ind., Nov. 24 ~PRNewswire~ -- The board of directors of NIPSCO Industries, Inc. (NYSE: NI) today elected Gary L. Neale as chairman, president and chief executive officer of NI, effective March 1, 1993. Neale was also elected chairman, president and chief executive officer of NI's main subsidiary, Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), effective that date.
 Neale, 52 years old, has been executive vice president of NI and president and chief operating officer of NIPSCO since Aug. 15, 1989. He has spent the last three years developing strategic positions for the company in the 1990's, including focus on cost containment and improved customer, employee, and community relations.
 He was previously chairman, president and chief executive officer of Planmetrics, Inc., a nationally known management consulting firm, specializing in the energy industry. He had served in those positions for 17 years, serving a full range of Fortune 1000 energy clients from pipelines to electric and gas distribution companies. Neale also held prior management positions at Wells Fargo Bank and Kaiser Industries.
 A graduate of the University of Washington, where he earned both a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in business administration, Neale is also a retired Naval officer with a specialty in steam engineering.
 Currently, Neale is serving on the board of directors of Modine Manufacturing Company, Gainer Bank, and the American Gas Association. He is also on the boards of the Indiana Gas Association, the Indiana Electric Association, the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, the Northwest Indiana Forum, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony. He has been appointed by the Governor of Indiana to the Economic Development Council, the Energy Policy Forum, and the Clean Air Advisory Committee.
 A resident of Dune Acres, Ind., Neale and his wife, Sandy, are the parents of two children, Julie, age 23, and David, age 25.
 In 1984, on recommendation of Edmund A. Schroer, the board of directors adopted a mandatory retirement policy at age 65 for senior officers at NIPSCO. In accordance with that policy, Schroer, who has been chief executive officer since 1977 and chairman since 1978, will retire on March 1, 1993.
