NDF Sergeant Major dies.
Heart attack claims life of 58-years-old Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Sergeant Major Class One, Leonard Pendapala Iiyambo in the early hours on Saturday morning at Keetmanshoop.
The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for //Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the death to Nampa on Saturday.
Mubebo said Iiyambo died around 02h18 at the Keetmanshoop State Hospital.
He added that no foul play is suspected and police investigations continue.
The deceased next of kin has been informed.
Speaking to this News Agency on Saturday, Acting Chief of the Defence Force, Air Vice Marshal Martin Pinehas said the Namibian Nation including the Ministry of Defence has lost a very dedicated soldier.
'We have learned with sadness the loss of Warrant Officer Class One, Iiyambo who has been serving in the NDF in various capacities and was currently serving as the NDF Sergeant Major from 01 March 2019 until his death,' he said.
Iiyambo was attending the week-long NDF sixth Annual Sports Edition in Keetmanshoop which started on Monday and ends Saturday.
