NDC HEALTHCARE CLAIMS PASS 1.4 MILLION IN A SINGLE DAY

ATLANTA, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- National Data Corporation (NASDAQ: NDTA) last week exceeded a million healthcare insurance claims every workday, with a peak daily volume of 1.4 million transactions.
NDC is a leading provider of cost containment and patient care directed services. It is the largest real-time processor of healthcare claims in the world. NDC began processing real-time claims in 1988, handling 700,000 claims that year. It now exceeds that every workday. Volume for its last fiscal year exceeded 250 million.
Its claims processing verifies insurance coverage while the patient is in the waiting room or at the prescription counter, tells the healthcare provider if the insurance company will pay -- and how much -- and directs payment to appropriate parties. Pharmacy claims can be compared to an NDC database to not only check for adverse drug reactions, but to also monitor for appropriate dosage, and screen for age precautions and allergies.
NDC continues to broaden its line of products. In a related program, it recently announced a pharmacy receivables funding program in conjunction with PFI, Inc. and Smith-Barney. Market acceptance of this value-added capability has been very positive.
National Data Corp. is in the forefront of providing the solutions necessary to address forthcoming government initiations for the containment of healthcare costs and delivery of quality healthcare services for the nation's total population.
