NCR TO SUPPORT VIC SYSTEMS FROM ADVANCED COMMUNICATION DESIGN, INC.

MINNEAPOLIS, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Communication Design (ACD) and NCR are close to finalizing an exclusive agreement calling for NCR to fully support the Voice/Video Information Center (VIC) recently introduced by ACD. The two companies will soon be able to offer retail chains a total package of equipment and services, from system hardware and basic installation to financing and on-going support.
VIC is an interactive, multi-user system which promotes music CDs, books on tape, and a variety of other recorded material, by allowing shoppers to hear samples from a vast library of selections. ACD's first-generation product, Preview Studio(TM), has been in operation for almost five years at hundreds of music stores around the country. VIC is the next step up in versatility and power, offering capabilities previously unavailable in the retail environment.
NCR, now a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T, is one of the world's largest computer and communications manufacturers. Under the proposed agreement, NCR will supply the basic computer hardware for the VIC system, will stock specialized audio/video components manufactured by ACD and will configure turn-key systems ready for installation. In addition, NCR boasts a total of 25,000 technicians in more than 100 countries that perform equipment maintenance in the field, as well as a financing arm (NCR Credit Corp.) that provides flexible solutions tailored to the customer's financial requirements.
"This partnership between our two companies will be a key factor in making VIC the industry standard," remarked Marco Scibora, president of ACD. "NCR's strength and credibility, combined with ACD's leadership in audio preview systems, make the customer's choice very simple. The retail chains we have talked to are already very excited about the potential for this new promotional concept."
The world's leading manufacturer of audio preview systems, ACD continues to pioneer new ways of applying digital audio technology to in-store retail promotions.
