NCR RELEASES NETWORK ADAPTER UNITS FOR STARLAN 10 NETWORKS
LINCROFT, N.J., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- NCR Corporation today released two NCR StarLAN 10 Network Adapter Units (NAUs) for 10BASE-T Ethernet local area networks. The adapters give PC users high-performance connectivity to 10 Megabit per second networks using inexpensive unshielded twisted pair wiring in accordance with the IEEE 10BASE-T standard.
The NCR StarLAN 10 Network interfaces include the LanPACER and LanPACER+ NAU. Both provide ISA-bus PCs with high-performance access to 10 megabit per second twisted pair networks. The LanPACER+ provides an AUI interface for connection to other types of media, such as coaxial cable, through external transceiver units.
"The LanPACER products offer significant performance and reliability improvements to end users," said Matthew Balkovic, assistant vice president, NCR Network Products Group. "Laboratory tests have shown even better performance than the award-winning StarLAN 10 Network PC NAU."
The NCR LanPACER+ and LanPACER NAUs are half-size interface cards for ISA-bus systems. The half-size card design allows customers to install NCR LanPACER NAUs in systems with small footprints. The NCR LanPACER+ implements a full 16-bit architecture allowing it to support systems ranging from XT-class PCs to 33 MHz machines. The LanPACER+ automatically recognizes the bus width of the system in which it is installed, allowing it to support 16- or 8-bit bus machines.
The NCR LanPACER NAU features a 16-bit internal architecture, but is designed for systems supporting 8-bit buses. The 16-bit architecture provides high throughput so users can fully capitalize on the speed of 10 Mbps 10BASE-T networks. The two LanPACER NAUs' high performance shared memory architecture also contributes to high throughput. Sixteen kilobytes of onboard memory provides a large buffer to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure maximum utilization of 16-bit bus. Users can set and change LanPACER card options from the system keyboard using installation and configuration software. For example, a user can reset memory and interrupt strapping options from the keyboard.
The StarLAN 10 Network LanPACER+ NAU is list priced at $399 and the LanPACER NAU is priced at $299. NCR., the Networked Computing Resource of AT&T, develops, manufactures, markets, supports and services enterprise-wide information systems for worldwide markets.
