NCNB SOUTH CAROLINA NAMED A WINNER IN THE
FIFTH ANNUAL BUSINESS AND THE ARTS PARTNERSHIP AWARDS
COLUMBIA, S.C., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- NCNB South Carolina today announced that it is a winner in the fifth annual Business and the Arts Partnership Awards. The bank has won the award four times.
NCNB South Carolina is a subsidiary of NationsBank Corporation (NYSE: NB), the company formed by the merger of C&S/Sovran and NCNB.
Rep. Jean L. Harris, chairperson of the Joint Legislative Committee on Cultural Affairs, made the announcement. The statewide awards annually recognize businesses that have developed exceptional partnerships with the arts in South Carolina. The committee and the S.C. Arts Foundation will honor 13 winners Feb. 19 at the Columbia Marriott Hotel.
"We're very pleased to win one of the awards, because it means that our efforts to improve the quality of life in our South Carolina communities have been recognized," said Joel A. Smith, president of NCNB South Carolina. "We've long believed that a strong arts climate reflects a prosperous and growing community.
"Because our communities are unable to provide strong arts support by themselves, corporations like NCNB must fill the void. We believe in our commitment to the arts because it benefits everyone in the communities we serve."
The awards recognized businesses for contributions to the arts in 1991.
Arts events which benefitted from NCNB South Carolina contributions in 1991 included the Piccolo Pops Concert by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as part of Piccolo Spoleto; Byrne Miller Dance Company's production of "Alice in Wonderland" in Beaufort; the Florence Symphony Orchestra's December concert, and the stage production of "The Nutcracker" by the Greenville Ballet.
The bank also purchased $100,000 in art from Lowcountry artists for NCNB Place, its new main office in Charleston.
In addition, NCNB South Carolina made installment pledges on commitments to both the renovation of Converse College's Twitchell Auditorium and the Peace Center for Performing Arts in Greenville.
Joining NCNB South Carolina as arts award winners for 1991 are Blue Cross & Blue Shield of South Carolina; Elliot, Davis & Co.; First Federal of Charleston; The Hilton Head Island Packet; L'Arome (USA) Inc.; B.C. Moore and Sons Inc.; Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough; Robinson, McFadden & Moore, P.C.; SCANA Corp.; South Carolina National Bank; Southern Bell; and Louis Sterling Floorcoverings Inc.
NationsBank Corp. is the third largest bank holding company in the nation, with full-service offices in nine states and the District of Columbia.
