Florida's banking history Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m., when the NationsBank (NYSE: NB) merger is completed.
"We're excited about the completion of the merger between NCNB and C&S in Florida," said Gene Taylor, president of NationsBank Florida. "With more than $21 billion in assets and more than 365 banking centers blanketing the state, Florida's third-largest bank will offer more convenience and better products and services than any other financial institution."
On Thursday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 9, the distinctive red-and- blue-on-white NationsBank signs will be uncovered at 177 banking offices in the following southern counties: Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Dade, Lee, Manatee, Monroe, Palm Beach and Sarasota.
C&S banking centers in those counties will close at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, and the drive-in windows will re-open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as NationsBank. "Thanks to our NationsBank associates and especially our associates in our facilities management group, our branches hardest hit by Hurricane Andrew are up and running and will convert to NationsBank on schedule," Taylor said.
Automated teller machines (ATMs) also will be converted. C&S customers in Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Dade, Lee, Manatee, Monroe, Palm Beach and Sarasota counties should begin receiving their NationsBank ATM cards the third week in October. Customers may continue to use C&S ATM cards until new cards arrive. They should receive NationsBank Checkmate cards prior to Oct. 9. The Checkmate cards will be activated at midnight, Oct. 8.
NCNB customers will receive NationsBank ATM cards after Oct. 9. Customers may continue to use NCNB ATM cards until new cards arrive. NCNB customers will receive NationsBank Checkmate cards when current cards expire.
"Less than two months ago, Hurricane Andrew ripped through the southern tip of Florida and caused damage so severe we weren't sure what to expect," Taylor said. "But the spirit of NationsBank came through. The heart and soul of this company is its people.
"I am proud to say our associates in the hardest hit areas are being taken care of personally, and the merger between NCNB and C&S in Florida has not missed a beat."
