NBD SPONSORS STATEWIDE SEMINARS TO AID SMALL BUSINESSES
DETROIT, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- NBD Bank will present one-day

seminars for minority business owners as part of Minority Business Month, which is being celebrated statewide throughout October. NBD is the corporate sponsor for the month-long celebration.
According to Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., U.S. business failures in the first of half of 1992 numbered 50,582, a 16.8-percent increase over the same period in 1991. NBD Bank is sponsoring these seminars to raise the small business owner's chances for success.
Agnes Patterson, second vice president and manager of NBD's Small Business Development Office, stresses that education is the key to operating a successful business.
"The NBD seminar will offer new ideas and important lessons to both the entrepreneur just starting out and the more established small business owner," Patterson said.
Seminar topics will include writing business plans, understanding what lenders look for, developing marketing strategies, identifying changing financial needs and recognizing business cycles.
The NBD seminars will be held at the University of Detroit Mercy College in Detroit on Oct. 5, Pontiac on Oct. 13, Flint/Saginaw on Oct. 19 and Grand Rapids on Oct. 26.
Edward King, M.B.A., C.P.A., and author of Running a Profitable Small Business, after which the seminars are named, will conduct the sessions.
Seminar participants will have the opportunity to network with other business owners in addition to interacting with NBD commercial loan officers. The seminar fee is $75, and includes continental breakfast, lunch, beverages and course materials.
