NBC takes reality check with Nash.

HOLLYWOOD After years of criticizing Fox for its reliance on reality specials, NBC is close to a deal with producer Bruce Nash ("When Good Pets Go Bad") for 13 episodes of a Foxlike video reality series, sources said last week.

The NBC series, expected to be ready in time for the February sweeps, will likely be titled "World's Scariest Home Videos." One NBC source said the network is ordering the series as a backup in case the NBA lockout is not resolved. The show would air in the Sunday 7 p.m. timeslot if basketball falls through this season.

NBC West Coast president Don Ohlmeyer has been one of the industry's most vocal critics of Fox specials, but such shows have been taking a serious bite out of NBC's rating's this season, particularly on Thursday, its strongest night.
