NAVISTAR AND UAW REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Navistar International Transportation Corp. and the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) have reached tentative agreement on new labor contracts covering 7,600 production, maintenance and clerical employees. The settlement is subject to ratification.
No details of the tentative agreements will be released pending completion of the ratification process.
The company said it has been informed by the UAW that ratification meetings at the 11 UAW local unions covered by the agreements at Navistar plants and operations in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Ohio and Texas will be scheduled for later this week.
The previous UAW-Navistar contracts, which had been in effect since November 1990, were scheduled to expire on October 1, 1993, but had been opened by mutual agreement as the next step in addressing the company's $200 million cost competitiveness issues.
Navistar International Transportation Corp., the principal operating subsidiary of Navistar International Corporation (NYSE: NAV), is the leading manufacturer in North America of medium and heavy trucks and the worldwide leader in the production of mid-range diesel engines.
