NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY SCIENTISTS RECEIVE AWARD
FOR TRANSFERRED TECHNOLOGY TO U.S. ALCOHOL TESTING OF AMERICA INC.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Alcohol Testing of America Inc. (USAT) (AMEX: AAA) announced today that two Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) scientists have been awarded the 1992 annual Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Technology Transfer Award. The award recognizes significant technology transfer efforts in support of drug control measures.
Dr. Frances Ugler and Anne Kusterbeck were recognized for their initiative in transferring the technology for the NRL-developed flow immunosensor, a system for the detection of drugs of abuse to the commercial sector.
The flow immunosensor technology was recently transferred to USAT under an exclusive patent license and a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRDA).
The award was presented by Dr. Albert Brandenstein, director of ONDCP's Counter-Drug Technology Assessment Center at the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) spring meeting.
The flow immunosensor is a highly sensitive drug screening device that is expected to be both time saving and cost-efficient. Additionally, the equipment is small and lightweight and can be used on site by nontechnically trained personnel. Potential users of the flow immunosensor include: transportation agencies, law enforcement agencies, the security industry, the military and U.S. customs.
In addition to drug testing equipment, USAT manufactures screening, evidential and consumer breath testing equipment for law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, detoxification centers, retail chains and other organizations. USAT was founded in 1987 and trades on the American Stock Exchange under ticker symbol AAA.
