NATWEST EXPANDS IN CONNECTICUT, OPENS OFFICE IN HARTFORD
NEW YORK, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- National Westminster Bancorp announced today that it has opened a commercial loan marketing office in Hartford, at Cityplace.
NatWest Bancorp, which has 260 branch offices in New York and New Jersey, opened its first office in Connecticut in 1985 when it formed NatWest USA Connecticut Corporation in Norwalk. Both the Norwalk and Hartford offices target mid-size firms above $15 million in annual sales.
According to Douglas Kennedy, who heads NatWest's Connecticut operations, the decision to open a second Connecticut Office was driven by "a successful calling effort in Hartford this past year in which we were finding more and more firms interested in what we have to offer." "And once we established a customer base," he said, "we were finding it increasingly difficult to serve it and broaden it from downstate offices."
Kennedy attributes recent success to a willingness to lend money in a difficult economy, to a targeted and consistent marketing effort, and to the recognition of NatWest's stature worldwide. "Our parent bank's capital strength, reputation, and global reach have enabled us to get our foot in the door in this market," he said. "Our aim is to build long-term relationships, and to bring the total regional and international capabilities of NatWest to our customers."
National Westminster Bank Plc, the London-based parent of NatWest Bancorp, has 3,300 offices worldwide, more than $230 billion in assets, and is represented in 33 countries.
Kennedy, who has been with NatWest since 1983, adds that "The intention is not to displace other banks." We are looking to complement local banks in cases where firms are looking to add new borrowing lines or in situations where we can assist with a product," he said.
In addition to Hartford, NatWest Bancorp also recently announced that it is opening a commercial loan office in Pennsylvania.
Headquartered in New York City, National Westminster Bancorp, with $22 billion in assets, is the 34th largest bank holding company in the United States.
