NATIONSBANK UNVEILS REPLICA OF ONE OF ITS FIRST BANK CHECKS
 PROMOTING PARTNERSHIP WITH OLYMPIC GAMES
SAVANNAH, Ga., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) tonight will unveil a replica of one of its first bank checks promoting the company's partnership with the 1996 Olympic Games.
Ken Lewis, president of the General Bank for NationsBank, will present an enlarged replica of a check featuring "Whatizit," the mascot of the 1996 Olympic Games, to Billy Payne, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG). The check presentation will occur around 9 p.m. at the NationsBank tent on River Street at the Waving Girl Plaza and is in conjunction with the arrival of the Olympic Flag on Sept. 10 in Savannah from Barcelona.
NationsBank on March 5 became the first corporate partner of the 1996 Olympic Games to be held in Atlanta. The partnership with ACOG enables NationsBank to promote the company, as well as its products and services, in conjunction with the 1996 Olympic Games.
NationsBank customers in Georgia will be able to order their Olympic Games checks beginning Thursday, Sept. 10. Customers in the rest of the NationsBank franchise, which includes eight other states and the District of Columbia, will be able to order Olympic Games checks later this year.
In addition to the "Whatizit" logo, customers in Georgia will be able to order checks featuring colorful panoramic scenes of three Olympic venues: the city of Atlanta, featuring the Atlanta skyline; Stone Mountain, site of the pentathlon, rowing, archery, canoeing, cycling and tennis events; and the Savannah riverfront. Savannah is the site of the yachting events in 1996.
All three checks depicting these scenes will carry the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games logo in color in the upper left corner.
"By making these checks available to customers around the NationsBank franchise, we can help promote the Centennial Olympic Games for the next four years," said Lewis. "This NationsBank product is a fine example of how the partnership between NationsBank and ACOG will benefit both institutions."
All Georgia customers re-ordering personal checks will have a black- and-white Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games logo printed on their checks. These checks, as well as those featuring "Whatizit" and the scenes from 1996 Olympic Games venues, also will carry the words "Centennial Olympic Games Partner" underneath the NationsBank logo.
NationsBank is the fourth largest banking company in the United States with $111 billion in assets and banking offices in nine states and the District of Columbia.
