NATIONSBANK TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING IN ATLANTA

ATLANTA, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) will hold a public hearing in Atlanta on Saturday, May 1, to listen to public comment on its community investment efforts.
"A large measure of the progress we've made in the community investment arena can be traced directly to ideas received from the people this program serves," said Catherine P. Bessant, principal Community Investment executive for NationsBank. "We're hopeful this hearing will be another successful tool for assessing the needs of our communities."
The public is invited to participate in the Atlanta forum, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Testimony is open to all Georgia residents. Those who wish to testify or participate in any way should contact Ron Garrett, Community Investment coordinator for NationsBank in Atlanta, at 404-607-6161 to reserve a time to appear. Written testimony is also acceptable. It can be sent to Garrett at 600 Peachtree St., 19th Floor, Atlanta, GA 30308.
Hearing the testimony will be a panel of NationsBank senior officers and leaders of community organizations. Panel members are Jim Lientz Jr., president of NationsBank of Georgia; Earl Shinhoster, Southeast regional director for the NAACP; David Bair, consumer banking executive for NationsBank of Georgia, and Beverly Lyle, Community Investment regional manager for NationsBank. An independent facilitator will moderate.
Those who wish to speak will have 10 minutes for a presentation. Panel members may take up to five minutes to query each speaker.
The Atlanta hearing is one of eight NationsBank will hold throughout its service area. For NationsBank, the purpose of the hearings is threefold: to assess the financial needs of historically underserved areas; to learn ways the bank can improve its Community Investment program; and to give community leaders an opportunity for tell senior bank executives about the investment issues and needs in the neighborhoods where they live.
The NationsBank Community Investment Program is a collection of special products and services designed for individuals from low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and for small businesses. Its goal is to ensure that NationsBank is the leading provider of credit and depository needs for all segments of the communities it serves.
During 1992, NationsBank lenders extended more than $2.2 billion in community investment loans. These results mark substantial first-year progress toward the bank's goal of making $10 billion in such loans within 10 years.
