 NATIONSBANK CHOOSES ALLTEL'S SYSTEMATICS
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- ALLTEL Corporation

(NYSE: AT) announced today that its Systematics information services subsidiary has signed a long-term services and software agreement with NationsBank (NYSE: NB), Charlotte, N.C. This five-year agreement includes licensing Systematics retail application software, conversion, training and production support management. NationsBank, with assets of $111 billion and 1,800 branches in nine states and the District of Columbia, is the fourth largest bank in the United States. The agreement represents a continuing trend in servicing arrangements among the nation's largest banks whereby the conversion and systems maintenance management, as well as the software, are provided by a third party.
Systematics will play a major role in managing the conversion of NationsBank banking centers and will provide continuing system support, maintenance and enhancements on a multi-state basis. NationsBank has selected the Systematics loans and deposits software for the retail bank. Systematics systems will replace eight different application platforms currently installed.
NationsBank and Systematics will co-manage and jointly staff the retail product standardization project. At its peak, over 300 people will be involved in this effort, including as many as 160 NationsBank programmers. When the retail product standardization is complete, NationsBank anticipates a reduction of approximately 230 positions in its programmer staff systemwide. This reduction will be accomplished through attrition, displacing contract workers and reassigning experienced NationsBank programmers to other positions. Some may choose to join Systematics.
Ken Lewis, NationsBank General Bank president, said, "Systematics' software and its management expertise will help NationsBank deliver the high quality financial products our retail customers want quickly, reliably and economically throughout the nine southeastern and southwestern states where we do business." He continued, "We are managing NationsBank as one company. We want to deliver the absolute best in financial products, with unparalleled service, to every one of our customers -- regardless of where they would like to do business, or where they happen to see our signs.
"We expect our retail customers will enjoy the enhanced sales and services," Lewis said. "For example, we can offer our relationship package of accounts that is so popular in North Carolina to our customers in Georgia and other states, and we can make our Florida retirement account available to senior citizens throughout our system. Further, retail product standardization and the use of the same software throughout our system will mean greater profitability for NationsBank, and this will benefit our employees and shareholders."
"We are delighted to have been selected as NationsBank's strategic partner for retail systems and conversion support," said John Steuri, chairman and CEO, Systematics. "Our people look forward to assisting NationsBank exceed its retail product and customer service goals."
Systematics, with clients in 49 states and 26 countries outside the United States, provides data processing management, services and software to the financial and telecommunications industries. The company is a subsidiary of ALLTEL Corporation, one of the nation's leading telecommunications and information services companies.
