NATIONSBANK ANNOUNCES SPECIAL, BELOW-MARKET-RATE LOAN PROGRAM
TO HELP REBUILD FLORIDA AFTER HURRICANE ANDREW
TAMPA, Fla. Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) has announced a special, below-market-rate loan program designed to help rebuild South Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
To be available in Dade County and other areas hit hardest, the financing package will include expedited loan approvals, preferential rates and flexible, tailored repayment terms.
Other features include 100 percent financing on new and used cars as well as relief on existing credit cards, mortgage loans, commercial real estate loans and small-business loans.
"We have designed a program that will start immediately to address the enormous social and economic devastation left by Hurricane Andrew," said Gene Taylor, president of NationsBank Florida.
NationsBank is the company formed by the merger of NCNB and C&S/Sovran.
"We are committing unlimited resources for the rebuilding of South Florida," Taylor said. "It will be a long, extremely difficult process, and NCNB, C&S and NationsBank will be here to help.
"There is no ceiling on the amount of money NationsBank will make available, and no time limit placed for qualification in the program," Taylor said.
The implementation of the package will begin immediately. Advertisements announcing the package will begin appearing Friday. Customers and employees needing more information about the program, or who want to take advantage of the services available, should call 1-800-275-6262.
"Whatever the needs of the individual homeowner or small business, we will take care of the people of South Florida for as long as they need us," Taylor said.
"Our goals here are to take care of our associates' needs as well as our customers'," he said. "Our associates have been outstanding in their efforts to re-open our banking offices. They also are assisting in the relief efforts by providing food, supplies and other items lost when Andrew hit this area."
NationsBank associates from Florida and elsewhere in the company's nine-state system have set up command central at the NationsBank Ft. Lauderdale Operations Center where truckloads of food and supplies have been delivered to NationsBank associates throughout the week. Commercial lenders from Ft. Myers and Orlando have traded briefcases for chainsaws in the effort to start cleaning up South Florida.
Also, NationsBank has established an account, funded by contributions from NationsBank associates companywide, to be used for associates in Dade County and other hard hit areas.
Taylor and members of his management team have delivered planeloads of supplies to NationsBank associates and banking offices in the Florida Keys.
A team of NationsBank associates is working diligently to locate all NCNB and C&S teammates in South Florida and provide food and shelter if needed.
Those associates who have lost contact with their managers or need personal assistance should call 1-800-524-8114.
Thursday, NationsBank opened 65 offices in Broward and Palm Beach counties out of a possible 69; 10 offices in Dade County out of 26, and 4 in Monroe County out of 8.
"I'm proud of our NCNB, C&S and NationsBank teammates in Florida and across the system," Taylor said. "And I believe our relief program will help meet the long-term financial recovery needs."
NationsBank is the fourth-largest bank in the United States with more than $111 billion in assets and full-service banks in nine states and the District of Columbia.
