NATIONSBANK ANNOUNCES HIGH GEAR SWEEPSTAKES FOR ITS VISA AND MASTERCARD CUSTOMERS

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) will give away a 1994 Jeep Cherokee to add excitement for customers who use the Visa and MasterCards it issues.
Beginning today and lasting through October 31, NationsBank cardholders automatically create a chance to win the car or one of many additional prizes in the NationsBank High Gear Sweepstakes each time they use their NationsBank classic Visa or standard MasterCard on a purchase. "We want to encourage our cardholders who will be making back-to-school purchases or doing other fall shopping -- even early holiday-related buying -- to use their NationsBank credit cards," said Susan W. Bossert, vice president of business development for NationsBank Card Services.
"We're adding fun and value to promote responsible card use," Bossert said. "We hope our customers will find it attractive to use our credit cards for purchases they normally would make anyway."
Customers will realize the budgeting help credit cards provide when they use their NationsBank Visa or MasterCards for purchases such as groceries that they might otherwise have paid for with cash or a check, Bossert said. NationsBank Visa or MasterCard members can spread purchase payments over convenient time periods.
Further, the card statements tell customers exactly how much they spent and what they got for their money.
In addition to the 1994 Jeep Cherokee, the NationsBank High Gear Sweepstakes will award two RCA CamCorders, five Murray 10-speed bicycles, 50 Bushnell binoculars and 1,000 tote bags.
Most of the 1.5 million NationsBank Visa and MasterCard customers will be hearing about the sweepstakes through messages in their billing statements this month and in September and October.
Each NationsBank card purchase creates a sweepstakes ticket. Winners will be selected through a random drawing conducted by an independent organization on or before November 30.
