NATIONSBANK ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BANKING CENTER IN BALTIMORE

BALTIMORE, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank (NYSE: NB) today announced it will build a new banking center in downtown Baltimore at the corner of Baltimore and Howard Streets in the City Crescent Building.
The banking office is scheduled to open on August 9.
"We believe placing this banking center in downtown Baltimore shows our commitment to the city," said J. Harold Chandler, president of NationsBank Washington/Baltimore area. "NationsBank believes it has a strong opportunity to gain new retail and small business customers by opening this banking center."
This is the first banking center opened in Baltimore by the company since it became NationsBank in January 1992. It is within two blocks of the Baltimore campus of the University of Maryland, which has six professional schools with 4,600 students and 4,000 employees.
It is also close to the new Veterans Administration Hospital, which has a projected employment of 3,500. The banking center will also be easily accessible from the city's mass transit system, which has a stop in front of the Crescent City Building.
The new banking center will have an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and night drop box. The new facility gives NationsBank 14 banking centers in Baltimore City/County. MNC Financial, which is scheduled to merge with NationsBank later this year, has 85 offices in Baltimore City/County.
NationsBank is the fifth largest bank in the United States with $121 billion in assets and full-service banking offices in nine states and the District of Columbia.
