NATIONALE-NEDERLANDEN NORTH AMERICA REACHES AGREEMENT TO SELL WISCONSIN NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE TO PROTECTIVE LIFE

 WASHINGTON, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Nationale-Nederlanden U.S. Holdings, a subsidiary of Internationale Nederlanden Group, announced today that it has reached an agreement to sell Wisconsin National Life Insurance Company to Protective Life Corporation. The agreement is subject to the approval by the appropriate regulatory authorities, and certain other conditions. It is anticipated that the agreement will be consummated in July 1993. At Dec. 31, 1992, Wisconsin National had $3.9 billion of life insurance in force, assets of $334 million, and $58 million of premiums.
 The sale of Wisconsin National is part of the strategic plan of Nationale-Nederlanden North America (NNNA), based in Washington, to concentrate on core businesses in the United States and Canada and enhance overall financial performance. NNNA holds strong positions in a number of North American services markets. NNNA operates through 15 life, health, property and casualty insurance companies and is part of Internationale Nederlanden Group (ING GROUP), headquartered in the Netherlands, the largest diversified financial services company in the world, according to Fortune, with assets over $170 billion.
