NATIONAL TIRE SERVICES ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTS

MINNEAPOLIS, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- National Tire Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTSI) (NTS), an environmental services company engaged in the abatement, collection, resale and recycling of used tires, today announced several developments aimed at positioning the company as a leader in the emerging waste tire industry.
NTS announced that it has agreed to acquire Golden Tire of Mackinaw, Ill., a profitable collector and reseller of used tires with annual revenues in excess of $800,000. Although specific terms were not disclosed, the company stated that the purchase will be for a combination of cash and stock and will be completed in July or August.
NTS also announced that it has reached preliminary acquisition agreements with two affiliated companies, V&Y Tire and McDuffie Resources of Thompson, Ga. (near Atlanta), and also with Whitewall Tire Company, Manitowoc, Wis. NTS hopes to complete final negotiations with these companies in August. The Georgia-based companies, with combined annual revenues of approximately $600,000, operate a tire collection business and own and operate a Tire Monofill. The addition of Whitewall Tire, a profitable collector and reseller of used tires, with annual revenues in excess of $800,000, is intended to compliment NTS' new fully permitted tire processing center in Waukesha, Wis. (near Milwaukee) that will open in August.
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has informed NTS that it has the opportunity to supply a minimum of 12,000 tons per year of tire- derived fuel (TDF) to the TVA's Memphis, Tenn., facility beginning Oct. 1, 1993. This adds to NTS' growing list of TDF opportunities with utilities, cement kilns and paper mills.
These developments demonstrate the company's commitment to its acquisition strategy and to providing a comprehensive range of environmentally sound tire recycling services. They also place NTS on a positive course for meeting its objective of becoming profitable in the fourth quarter of 1993 (December yearend) and for achieving its minimum revenue goals of $4 million in 1993 and $10 million in 1994.
National Tire Services, Inc. is a public company with key operations in Minneapolis and Chicago. The company recently completed an initial public offering of 2,300,000 shares in May 1993. NTS shares are traded on the NASDAQ small cap market system under the symbol NTSI.
