NATIONAL TIRE SERVICES, INC. ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEW PROCESSING FACILITY AND PIMA COUNTY CONTRACT

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- National Tire Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTSI) (NTS), an environmental services company engaged in the abatement, collection, resale and recycling of used tires, today announced two developments aimed at positioning the company as a leader in the emerging Waste Tire industry.
NTS announced the opening of its new fully permitted tire collection and processing center in Waukesha, Wis. The facility will operate a series of full-service collection routes, along with processing collected tires into "chips" for sale as tire-derived fuel (TDF) to contracted end users. Estimates are that Waukesha should generate $900,000 of revenue in 1994.
The addition of the Waukesha operation brings the total number of collection and/or processing facilities for National Tire Services to six, with other locations in Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Chicago; Mackinaw, Ill.; Milbank, S.D.; and Port Clinton, Ohio.
NTS also announced that it has been awarded Pima County's (Tucson, Ariz.) tire recycling contract for the next year. The contract assigns National Tire Services the responsibility of removing tires from existing collection centers within the county and to implement/maintain an ongoing recycling system. Estimates are that the contract should generate approximately $750,000 of revenue over the next year. The contract begins on Oct. 1, 1993 and company officials indicate that startup plans for the project are already under way. The awarding of this contract provides opportunity for tire collection, consulting and abatement work in the Southwest, to include California, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.
These developments reinforce the company's commitment to becoming a national leader in the tire collection, abatement and environmentally safe disposal (TDF) of tires. It also positions National Tire Services on a positive course for meeting its objective of becoming profitable in the fourth quarter of 1993 (December year-end) and generating a minimum of $4+million of revenue in 1993.
National Tire Services, Inc. is a public company with key operations in Minneapolis and Chicago. The company completed an initial public offering of 2,300,000 shares in May 1993. NTS shares are traded on the NASDAQ Small Cap market system under the symbol NTSI.
