NATIONAL SNACK CHAIN TO BE LAUNCHED IN ST. PAUL
WEST ST. PAUL, Minn., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Quick, name a national retail chain dedicated to serving all of America's favorite snack foods. You can't because there isn't one. However, on April 3 at noon, Snack Express, the first store of its kind, will celebrate its St. Paul grand opening at the Signal Hills Mall, South Roberts Street at Butler Avenue.
City officials will join top executives of the Midial U.S. Retail Group (Cleveland), for an opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting for the new concept chain. The public is invited to sample many of America's traditional food favorites, some delicious new treats and receive free balloons on-site.
"We have taken the snack foods that America loves...fresh baked cookies, hot soft pretzels and nuggets, rich soft serve ice cream, nachos, added some new treats, and combined them all in one store," said Marge Sleght, an executive vice president for Midial U.S. Retail Group. "We're very excited about this retail concept and pleased to have St. Paul be the site of our first, full-size store."
West St. Paul's Signal Hills Mall was chosen as the inaugural Snack Express launch site due to its size, shopping demographics and community appeal. (A trial Snack Express store was opened in Mankato, Minn. last fall.) The company plans to open between 10 and 20 Snack Expresses around the country during its first year of operation. Midial also owns The Original Cookie Company, Hot Sam Pretzel and Fanny Farmer Candy Shops.
"As with our other successful retail chains, we feel that Snack Express will meet the needs of today's fast-paced shopper with fresh quality snacks," Sleght continued. "Along with extensive research, you have to have a lot of faith in what you're doing to launch a new retail chain in today's economy."
Along with the new store, Snack Express will be introducing several new snacks to St. Paul, including:
-- Tropical Sno(R), a flavored, shaved ice treat, reminiscent of "frozen cotton candy"
-- Baked Potato Chips, crispy, oven-baked (not fried) thin-sliced potatoes with almost no fat or cholesterol
-- Seasoned Popcorn, freshly made popcorn served up with a choice of six tempting toppings
The design of the store will be family oriented and simple, yet bright, colorful and accented by large images of the various snacks. Each Snack Express store will range in size from 600 sq. ft. to 800 sq. ft. with at least 20 feet of frontage. Store locations are targeted for shopping centers of at least 400-600,000 square feet.
