NATIONAL HOUSING ADVISORY BOARD TO HOLD FIRST MEETING
 WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A public/private-sector panel

established to advise the Thrift Depositor Protection Oversight board on issues relating to affordable housing will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, March 11, in Washington. The Oversight Board reviews policy and approves funding for the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), the S&L cleanup agency.
The newly established National Housing Advisory Board (NHAB), created under the RTC Refinancing, Restructuring and Improvement Act of 1991, will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the board room of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, 550 17th Street, N.W., Washington. The meeting is open to the public.
Chaired by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Jack Kemp, the NHAB includes as members the chairpersons of the six regional citizen boards that advise the RTC on real estate sales policies and progress. They are: Henry Berliner of Annapolis, Md.; Richard Tourtellotte of Oklahoma City; Donald Jacobs of Evanston, Ill.; Bayard Friedman of Fort Worth, Texas; Edward Lujan of Alburquerque, N.M.; and James Simmons of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 required that the RTC provide homeownership and rental housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income families. The first meeting of the new board created to assist the RTC in this goal will include an RTC briefing on its affordable housing program and testimony on both single-family and multi-family disposition efforts. NHAB members also will provide regional perspectives on these issues.
The March 11 NHAB meeting will be preceded by a 9 a.m. meeting of the National Advisory Board. This group, chaired by Philip Searle of Naples, Fla., also includes the chairpersons of the six regional boards and provides advice on the RTC's overall real estate disposition efforts.
