NATIONAL GRASS ROOTS AND COMMUNICATIONS ENDS FOOD LION ASSIGNMENT

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is the text of a letter sent by Pamela Kostmayer-Jones, president/CEO of National Grass Roots and Communications, Inc., to Vince Watkins, V.P., corporate communications, Food Lion, Inc.:
One year has passed since Food Lion hired my firm (National Grass Roots and Communications) to help it refute the false charges being made by the United Food and Commercial Workers union and by ABC's PrimeTime Live. What a pleasure it has been to fight alongside a company which trusts the American people to make judgments based on facts! And what courage it required for Food Lion to take the risky path of fighting back with the truth! Against the carping of all the second-guessers, our aggressive program of fighting back in a high-profile counter-attack produced very positive results for Food Lion.
The truth has prevailed again. With the grass roots help of 60,000 loyal, wonderful Food Lion employees, the UFCW's hate campaign against Food Lion has been exposed. The PrimeTime Live program, based on fraud, staged scenes and manufactured charges, has been revealed for the slander it was. Most important, the high quality of the goods and services provided by Food Lion has been affirmed.
It is therefore time to end this assignment, and our formal association with the outstanding and courageous people of Food Lion, and move on to other challenges. We wish all the employees of Food Lion the best. They are good people who serve their customers with honesty and integrity. They have a good future, and we will continue to follow their progress with pride in our special effort together.
