NATIONAL EDUCATION CORP. NAMES ROBERT T. SOTO PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL EDUCATION TRAINING GROUP

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- J.W. Cwiertnia, president and chief executive officer of National Education Corp. (NYSE: NEC), announced today that Robert T. Soto has been named president of the company's National Education Training Group subsidiary.
Cwiertnia said Soto was selected following a rigorous executive search process and that he is a highly accomplished senior executive who has demonstrated that he has the leadership qualities, technical skills and perspectives necessary to lead the company's industry training operation into the future.
Soto gained prominence as president of Ampex Video Systems Corp. where he repositioned the business from one of declining market share and operating losses to a company of fourfold sales increases and profitability. Prior to Ampex, his career was highlighted by successful contributions to high technology industries which included hardware, software and video production. Since leaving Apex in 1992, Soto has successfully completed a turnaround assignment as chief operating officer for a privately owned high-technology company.
Cwiertnia said that Soto is highly optimistic that by providing the proper focus NETG can build a stronger market position. NETG is the world's leading provider of multimedia education and training for business and industry.
